Gjykata e Lartë në kryeqytetin e Canberra-s të Australisë, ka vendosur të shfuqizojë ligjin për martesat e të njëjtës gjini.
Sipas burimeve zyrtare, janë anuluar 27 martesat e të njëjtës gjini, të cilat janë bërë 6 ditë pasi ky ligj hyri në fuqi.
Qeveria Federale ka fituar sfidën e saj në Gjykatën e Lartë, bazuar në faktet se legjislacioni i territoreve australiane “nuk mund të vihet në konkurrencë me aktin federal 1961 për martesat” i cili “nuk ofron momentalisht bazë ose njohje të martesave të çifteve të gjinisë së njëjtë”.
Vendimi është zbatuar pasi kushtetuta pohon se ligjet federale qëndrojnë mbi ato shtetërore.
